I registered as well, BUT, two major hurdles to get over. 1: Can I download this monster over my 56k modem. 2: Can I play solo network games, because at 56k I can't handle DS1 MP, let alone DS2.

You cannot sign up any longer, I'm afraid. The deadline for signing up was one week ago.

If you do not play DS II beta, you've not missed much of anything. The beta only exposed a small fraction of the world, and allow you do a tiny fraction (only 4) of the primary quests. I complete them in 3 hours time.
Subsequently, it gets boring, because there is nothing much you can do in the beta. There are a few secondary quests. The problem is that the beta "boxed" you inside a small world where you are unable to go anywhere. After a while, you can kill everything in that enclosure and the beta becomes boring...
Just my 2 cents.
BTW, there are a few glaring bugs in the beta, which unbalanced the game play in DS II. There is a new auto-cast feature which allow you to automate and repeatedly cast spells in certain slots. My level 3 combat mage was able to autocast a level 9 spell (summon trasit). At level 3, I have 4 or 5 level 9 transit accompaning me and killing everything in sight. There was no challenge at all.

Just wondering...did you submit a bug report to GPG so they could fix it? www.fileplanet.com/betacenter/dungeonsiege2/bugsubmit.aspx
