Booyah!!!! Finally got it, thank you Xaa. The enchant is what I was missing. Never even thought to try that before.... Now if I can only figure out how to make the weapon that increases Confidence. Heh. Confidence is increased by the use of melee weapons, or fighting unarmed. I *know* that's not broken, so don't mess with my head. =P

Has anyone else noticed on the home page: Man, I wish Xaa would stop killing those topics as soon as they are updated!!!! Unfortunantly, by posting, I have now condemned myself to be the violent moderater of latest topics.

This topic is somewhat old, but I wanted to share my $0.02 anyway.
Training melee from my perspective - training on pells works, yes, but I find a live opponent more effective. Currently with 23 hitpoints, I found my perfect sparring parter in a black knight in the first desert region. She can't kill me and I'm unable to kill her accidentally as well (speed with a long sword) so a few hours of endless fighting are guaranteed. After that, boredom sets in. Just don't forget to provide your companions with enough rations.

No need if you aren't letting them fight. I let Mantri fight with me until I got up to the 25 strength I wanted, since then, all companions stay on the dock until I've cleared out a region. That way they don't eat anything, and don't get killed by accident.

If they're outside the frustrum (the loaded area in DS), they don't do anything. Enemies keep following you, for example, but once you put enough distance between you and them for them to get outside the loaded area, well, they're no longer "loaded" and therefor can do nothing. If you leave behind your partymembers far enough for their icons to turn grey, they're outside the active frustrum, and won't really notice the time that passes by. To make fit this into the role-playing perspective, we can say they're left behind to guard the ship, in case something goes wrong and Pooka has to retreat quickly and safely, and while guarding, they're speding time hunting in turns when we're not looking, to keep their supplies at the same amount.

I tend to think of it as being the same as when in TV shows they follow the hero for awhile, then switch back to the other characters and nothing has happened for them in all that time.
