I just got around to reading "Legacy of the Last God". I liked it even better than "The Last God". In "The Last God" I found Tinker annoying. Of course, he is SUPPOSED to be annoying, so that isn't a complaint! But I did have a hard time understanding how Merle could have been attracted to him. In Legacy, I really liked just about every one of the main characters. It was fun watching Farrah and Smith develop. The final resolution to Amani's inner struggle was intriguing. And I enjoyed R'Narr and L'Sala's relationship. To top it off, I know R'Nalas had a very minor part in the story, but its ending caught me by surprise and was quite satisfactory. And, personally, I'm not entirely convinced that L'Valin actually broke. I think T'Masa may have needed D'Zhin to THINK he understood what was going on. Perhaps... Just a theory. But if I'm right, L'Valin is now the only Mentalt that D'Zhin can trust, and THAT would put T'Masa back at D'Zhin's ear without him realizing it. Thank you for a good story! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

He was her childhood friend, that was the largest part of it. Merle was something of an "outsider" to the musties, as she preferred to play with the powers of her mind rather than running around doing physical games - she invented things, and experimented with new ideas. Tinker, being a mouse, had quite a few things in common with that, so they became very good friends. And, as she loved him then, she always loved him, even many years after he died. That simply is the way musties are. Well, the main point of R'Nalas, aside from the obvious plot development, is to again reinforce that we came in on the first book with a world that already many things had happened in the past. There is a fully detailed world with a history of it's own behind the characters, and R'Nalas, though he does not appear "on screen" very long, is just as much a full character as anyone else in the stories. Sorry, no, L'Valin broke under torture. The mentalts are, in the end, still mortals, and there is a limit to how much they can take. Book 3 covers what happens to her afterwards, as well as continuing the overarching storyline. No, she is cast out. This is mentioned in chapter fifty-two, and more thouroughly explained in book 3. I am glad you are enjoying it. =)
