Ever tried using BYOND? Sure you cant do the flashy GFX, or SFX, but it IS a free way to make multiplayer games that can be played online (and from what Ive seen, it can do almost any type of game you please)
Look into it...

Wow! That IS interesting. Schrodingers Encyclopedia has an entry on it. BUT, the graphics are very primitive. I think graphics are just a bonus, and happen to be a big fan of Nethack and Slashem. But Xaa has the heart of an artist. He wants PRETTY along with his deep stories. Who knows though?

yeah, he could have fun as an iconer though (there were some nes and snes games that looked pretty good, despite the limited GFX, and from what ive seen, he also loves the coding end, which he could do endlessly in byond)

Yeah, quite a few games are pretty addictive (no naruto/dbz plzkthnx)
The Rise of Heros could be an interesting place for him to dabble (it recently got someone new working with the code)
If Xaa doesnt mind doing something "fan-based" (Sometimes they try to "remake" the game as close as possible to the original, other times they just go with the theme, and really go wild) there is one game that would have endless multiplayer possibilities, and might just go along the lines Xaa seems to like (Somewhat difficult, LONG play time, and wonderful mixing)
Dragon Warrior Monsters (there have been only two of these done so far, both for the GBC) General game play is similar to the other DW games, until you get to breeding (and god but that was fun)
Every monster in the game had "basic" stat gains according to a HUGE table, they also had 3 skills they could learn naturally. About a third of the monsters you obtained in the story were "tamed" by meat goodies. (All good right? here comes the fun part)
When you bred two monsters together, it produced an Egg, and you lost the other two monsters. You might be thinking "WTF?" but the deal was that the new monster had starting stats equal to half the average of the parents stats, AND could learn all the skills the parents had, provided the requirements were met (and some monsters could only be obtained via breeding)
Finally, each monster had a max level, which could be raised by gaining +X (which was gotten via breeding)
Your party consisted of you, and up to three monsters, and the rest stayed back on the "farm", which also had a limit of sorts
Comparing it to Mageworld, your monsters are the equipment, the farm is your inventory, and breeding is tailorting/tinkering/alchemy/smithing/enchanting, and taming is forgaing (both kinds)
