Dungeon Siege III is being developed by Obsidian with cooperation from GPG www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/06/07/obsidian-to-develop-dungeon-siege-iii/Dungeon Siege II didn't interest me enough to buy it. I wonder if this will be any better, and if it will be mod friendly? I'm a bit skeptical, but who knows, hope springs eternal. It's been 8 years since Dungeon Siege I was released. That's a VERY LONG time in the computer game world. Xaa, what do you think, and what are you looking for in a modern MOD friendly platform? Obviously graphics advances, but that's really secondary to me. What kind of changes do we want to see in how easy it is to build and develop for the new engine? Have any of you seen Platinum Arts Sandbox yet? It's NOT as user friendly as it should be, the documentation is rather poor. But it is simple enough that my son is busy building worlds with it. We need a platform that is really designed with the modder in mind. A platform that is built, not just to be pretty, but to be easy to develop and wide open in its story possibilities.

Going on games that are heavily modable, most Blizzard games, as well as the Source Engine and Unreal Engines usually fit the bill. Standalone works are not my area of expertise though, although I know some of my favourite indie games are made with C++, Java and the like. And from what I know of Xaa, he'd much prefer to make a game from scratch than having to go through the hell of Dungeon Siege's hardcoding again. Edit: A friend of mine heavily suggests using Unity, preaching that it is very easy to make games with and is quite powerful. I have no input on that, however.
