In (I think) QB3, there's some sort of major encampment of the Black forces that I need to find a way past. Any suggestions?

You can go around it easily if you follow the edges of the region.
If you want to clear it, take your time.
--possible spoiler-- I used stealth in a combination with arrows and spells to eleminate as many Bishops as possible. When spotted, I switched to the hold-spell and immobilised the knights. (If there were pawns, they died instantly from my rapier.) Then I proceeded killing the Bishops. With all Bishops dead, you can re-hold the knights and play a game with them. Either you melee them one by one (or you vs 2 of them, as I did), or you decide to burn them with magic. --end--

Well, I managed to get past - that's the first time in the entire game I've actually had a use for a combat spell. It was great for dealing with the bishops.

Hold Creature is most definitely a very useful spell in Mageworld.

Hold Creature is most definitely a very useful spell in Mageworld. Actually, I used Lightning on the bishops.

I refer to being able to take on a multitude of foes at once. Even my maxed out, 20/20 armored knight can lose to a large enough swarm, but with hold creature she can hold the knights at bay, and prevent the bishops from fleeing as che cuts them down. This is especially important when confronting an ancient knight, as I find she can just barely defeat one in single melee combat (yes, believe it or not..it IS possible. I spent a long time finding the right strategy..when told it cannot be done, I naturally have to find a way, heh heh) Honestly, I don't consider bishops any kind of a threat. My knight is always too well armored and regenerating too quickly for them to do any lasting damage to her, whereas I can destroy them with one shot, hit, or spell. Lightning I find to be less useful than I would like because of its low damage and the fact that it frees all held opponents within range by damaging them.. Faster to simply hold the bishops, fire an arrow at one, and charge to the rest and hack them down while they cannot run. In fact, in my experience, hold creature was really the only spell I utilized regularly, with the exception of magic bottle for storage. That's my preferred strategy.

That's very true. Unless you play solo like I do, haha. I can't tell you how many times I had to have a naked and very vulnerable Mantri run in circles as part of my strategy in areas where I couldn't just leave him at the starting point, haha.

Honestly, I don't consider bishops any kind of a threat. You'll find they get a bit more dangerous later on.
