So my wife and I are playing MW, and she says "You know what would be cool?"
"What?"
"It would be cool if you fixed the broken fencing parry for the male demon. He parries, but when he counters, he never hits."
"Yeah, that would be cool," I reply, already dreading another visit to GMAX hell. I already know what the problem is - I forgot to stick a "fire" event in the animation. Yuck. I would rather be publicly flogged in the courthouse square.
"And it would be cool if the Bishop's Staff worked exactly like a wizard's staff. Double mana, and the first half of the mana pool gained costs no health."
"Yeah, that would be cool," I say, not terribly happy that I will be coding, too. Even the thought of wrestling with GPG's "skrit" language makes me ill.
"And it would be cool if all the magic staves shined purple when you turned purple, not just the neutral staff."
"Yeah, that would be cool," I replied, not having the slightest clue how to fix that. The problem is the attach points for the glowy effect don't work well with the scythe and the moon-sickle due to how they're shaped, so I turned the effect off for them.
"So you'll fix it for me?" she asks, flashing me a dazzling smile.
Well, hell, it's HER game, I HAVE to fix what she wants fixed. "Okay. Anything else?"
"See if you can make the training element more graphical, too," she replies, smiling.
Yuck. I hate working with DS.

Weeee ! ;D If I wouldn't get problems with you for it, I'd hug your wife for that. Sorry, but it would be cool... So, does this mean we'll have a Mw3.1 or a Mw4.0 in a few months ? (Probably depends on how big/numerous the changes will be, and that probably will only be known by the time you're about finished with them ?) I wonder, will you make the "more graphical training" to be like the "fighting air in slow-motion" in martial arts, will you make them flip pages in a book labeled "martial arts for dummies", spar with the trainer (not even sure if that's really possible, unless with both playing a fixed animation rather than actually fighting each other), something else, or are you keeping that a secret until the release ? Sorry you hate working with DS, but we all love the results. Think of it as some noble self-sacrificing deed: You do something that makes you unhappy, and the lot of us gets a lot of happiness in return. You know, some sort of Karmic Balance...

That was her reply, too. 3.1 - a 4.0 would be a MAJOR change, the way I number things. Like when I added the male demons and stuff. I wonder, too. I really don't have any idea how to do it, yet. The staff problem I think I can bypass by making a special "purple" staff. The way it would work is everyone would get the usual promotions for staves up until they hit purple. Then, if they qualify for the top-tier staff (scythe, sicke-staff or axe-staff), they'd get the special "purple" staff instead. That way I don't have to figure out how to make the good and evil staves work right - I just bypass them with a new staff. Stats would be identical to the top-end staves, it would just look different (and, of course, give you something new to shoot for). The animation problem with fox-boy is just going to be another (mis)adventure with GMAX, there's no easy solution, there.

Purple staff. You get it if you meet the following criteria: 1) You qualify for the top-end summoned staves (scythe, sicke-staff or axe-staff). 2) You are purple. 3) You are not a robot (they get their own staves, of which the top-end staff glows purple when you hit purple) Same stats as the other top-end staves, but it has a purple glow. Which doesn't seem like much, but it's a free light source and looks cool. [edit] Bishop's staff now fixed (or not, depending on your point of view - the change has been made, at any rate). Oh - and yes, it still glows when you're purple. [/edit]

Same stats as the other top-end staves... where can I find these stat-requirements? I've never encountered anything about it. I do have the dragonhead staff summoned allready, but don't ask me how A

Oh man, more mageworld updates in the future! Tell your wife we ALL appreciate her influence over you! Small tweaks here and there, too. Some improvement to the action of the 'aim' button (ctrl), etc.
