After one of the members here asked in e-mail "what happened to your Renderosity gallery?", I've decided to create this board and post some of my poser renders that were once on Renderosity.
As to why I am no longer on Rendo, well, I deleted my Renderosity gallery and all my freestuff, and I will not be participating on Renderosity any longer.
The story of "why" is a rather long one. In short, however, I posted as a joke the following thumbnail:
This is pretty much the same way I have posted all my thumbnails to joke images that were on my Rendo gallery. No picture, just text. In fact, regular viewers to my Rendo gallery knew that if you saw an image with a thumbnail that was all text and had exclaimation points, well, it was a joke post.
And, the text is exactly the truth, as well. You see, the image shows a topless woman in jeans holding up two pictures, one over each breast. The pictures are of two tits - small birds of the Paridae family, also known as chickadees. There is a word-baloon by the woman's head where she says "Some of you people should be ASHAMED of yourselves", and the text on the image reads as follows:
"The tit, also called chickadee or titmouse, is a bird of the family Paridae. Tits are are a large family of small passerine birds which occur in the northern hemisphere and Africa. The name 'titmouse' derives from the 14th century, composed of the Old English name for the bird, mase (Proto-Germanic *maison) and tit, denoting something small. In America, these birds are called "chickadees", an onomatopoeic name derived from their distinctive "chick-a-dee-dee-dee" alarm call. The name 'tits', common to most of the remainder of the English speaking world, is simply a shortened version of 'titmouse', and simply means 'small'."
The thumbnail is complely true in everything it says. It's a picture of a naked pair of tits. The two tits shown in the image are not wearing clothing (as is normal for birds), hence, they are naked. The woman is topless, there is nudity in the image, but it conforms to the TOS as it is tasteful nudity - the nipples are covered by the pictures she is holding up. The image is a joke - a pun on the name of the bird. And the joke pokes fun at both the puritanical and the purient alike.
However, this was apparently too much for the mods at Rendo, so the picture was withheld from my gallery. It was at that point I decided that Renderosity simply does not reflect what I consider to be the ordinary values of contemporary society.
This is the image that thumbnail led to, you can click it to see the image at full size. Note that this is the PNG version, not the JPG version I was forced to post on Rendo due to their limits on the size of images:
If you decide to click the image to look at the larger version and the image looks pixellated, click it for the 'full screen' version. PNG doesn't compress well at ImageShack.
Anyway... As you can see, the image is a joke. Unfortunately, Renderosity has reached the point where they are simply too puritanical to take a joke. So, there we are.
Oh - and the "Helping the Wife with her Shower" image, referred to in the text near the bottom of the "Tits!" image, was a picture of two mice, the female in a teacup and being sprayed by a perfume atomizer, which was pumped by the male jumping up and down on the bulb. So, it was again another zinger for both the puritanical and the purient.
In following up on my decision to delete my gallery and my freebies from Renderosity, I wrote the following e-mail to admin@renderosity.com:

Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing you today to let you know that I have deleted my gallery and removed my freestuff from your collection. The reason for this action is simply that I find I no longer agree with Renderosity policies.
Furthermore, I find that I can no longer encourage people to purchase from your store, and will actively discourage such with anyone I speak to both online and off, because I find your new policies regarding artistic expression to be too far out of line with contemporary society. I understand you have a right to enforce what you consider to be appropriate standard on your own website, and I respect that right. However, I can no longer continue participating on your website or giving you my support, as your policies clash with my own viewpoints on artistic expression.
For further information on this decision, please contact the moderator known as Karen1573, I'm certain she can enlighten you as to the incident which brought about this decision.
Thank you for your attention, and have a pleasant day.

And that's it.
Basically, their attitude is "if you don't like our rules, go somewhere else." And that's fine, it's their website, they have that right. However, at this point, I do NOT reccommend people purchase from Rendo, post to Rendo galleries, or in any way deal with Renderosity.com. I simply do not see a point in supporting them, since their attitudes have literally nothing to do with contemporary morality, or even the overall morality of the 3D community at large. To the contrary, they are stifling free speech - and as the largest artist-sponsored site, they are stifling speech rather effectively.
And that, really, is the problem. People's choices are to post at Raunchy Minds or Renderotica, having their work take on the stigma of "porn" regardless of what it actually is, or they can follow the extremely restrictive rules of Renderosity and post only pictures that fit what the Renderosity admins consider "acceptable." I acknowledge that this is their right. It's their website, they have a right to say what goes on it and what doesn't. Unfortunately, there is no realistic alternative for those who don't want to post to a "porn" site, and yet still want their work to be seen by the community at large.
As for me, well, if the Poser community at large misses out on a few of my images, well, you know, I'm pretty damn sure that nobody's going to shed a tear. So, I'm posting the better ones here, so those of you who are my fans and visit this forum can enjoy them. I remind you also that the "Other Works" board also contains more of my Poser works - a graphic novel in the "For Love Of Evil" thread, and a set of Sci-Fi Tarot Cards in the "Electric Tarot" thread. And the comment threads for those two projects are still open, in case people decide they would like to comment on the images.
So, in short, I'm no longer involved with Renderosity, and I'll be posting gallery pics here that once were there, as well as making my future gallery image posts to here. Sit back, relax, and I hope you enjoy. ;D
