Mageworld 3.1 is available from the link you will find on this page: xaa.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=mageworld&action=display&thread=181&page=1The Enigmatic Dreams Mageworld Journal download site appears to be dead! It was there a few months ago, but since I don't own it, I don't know what happened to it. So, I uploaded the Mageworld Journal 1.0 windows setup program to here: files.filefront.com/13273833I know when you run the install it says "Mageworld Journal 1.0 BETA", but that is just a stupid mistake I made when creating the install. The version it installs is 1.0 from after the Beta testing. (although, since I don't think any problems were identified during the 1.0 beta test, they were probably identical other than the help files and version number anyway) Anyway, let me know if you have any problems with it! I haven't worked with that program in quite some time.

Anyone know how to get it to be compatible with Vista x64? I'm afraid not, I do not have Vista.

Which, dungeon Siege or Mageworld Journal? Mageworld Journal, being a java program, SHOULD run under vista just fine, but who knows. Vista is a nightmare. And, if Dungeon Siege won't run, there's not much point in running mageworld journal. <sigh>
You might try installing ubuntu! Dungeon Siege now works under wine. it's got one annoying graphics glitch, but other than that it runs perfectly. Unfortunately, I added some windows specific code to Mageworld Journal in order to let it build shortcuts on your desktop and it doesn't run very well natively under linux, but it might work just fine under wine. I'll have to do some testing. (Or, perhaps, just build a linux version of MwJ without the windows specific code)

Wine is the WINdows Emulator program that Linux uses to let you run Windows programs under Linux.
If you have installed MwJ under your Vista just fine, you could try to right-click the shortcut and click the "run as administrator" option, instead of just double-clicking it. Vista is, as Kilarin stated, indeed a nightmare.
Same "run as administrator" route can be used for LoH and Mw themselves. If even that fails, you may have to move those folders into the My Documents dir, and rework the shortcut paths.
PS: You will at all times get an incompatibility error. Just ignore it and continue. It should work just fine.

Vista... <shudder> Ubuntu is the particular flavor of Linux I enjoy. Linux is a free, open source operating system. It's possible to run both Ubuntu and Windows on the same computer. That's the way I do it. The installation process requires a little bit of computer skill, and getting Wine installed requires a bit more. BUT, it WILL run dungeon siege, and, presumably, Mageworld. Of course, just getting an "upgrade" to windows XP would solve the problem in a way thats probably a lot easier. Wish I could help you more with the vista problems, but I get lost in vista. My parents have it on their computer and it keeps baffling me everytime they ask me to work on it. Actually, I set up an Ubuntu dual boot for them so that they can boot into linux when vista is acting up. They aren't using linux for much more than surfing the web right now, but they ARE using it occasionally.

I have installed DS, LoH and Mw on a friends' pc, who is running Vista. But your error is something I did not run across. Did you run regular DS and create a character there before "installing" LoH and Mw ? If not, several of the needed DS directories ( mostly the ones needed to load characters and stuff ) don't exist yet, which will give a problem when it tries to access those directories for LoH/Mw.
So for a clean install... - Install DS - Run DS - Start a MP game with a temporary test-character - Walk a few steps, talk to the blacksmith ( Elddim ) to get a quest update, so the character will get saved - Exit DS ( the nice way; through the menu - else it may not actually save the character ) - Put the correct LoH/Mw folders in the correct places ( Program Files and My Documents ) - Create shortcuts - Run as Administrator - Ignore compatibility-error - Enjoy the game
Now, I don't know how you've done your installation, so I can't really say if something went wrong or not. My suggestion is you uninstall DS ( and the LoH/Mw folders you created ), and do a clean install the way I roughly described above. ( Backup your savegames, though. )
Secondly, your error popup is titled "ATI.COM Helper exception". While it is true Windows often puts the most unrelated things in error window titlebars ( no sarcasm ), there's also the off-chance it's occasionally actually correct. So, is your graphics card an ATI, and has it been behaving as it is supposed to ? Are you using the latest drivers ?
edit for typo

Thanks for trying to help me but nothing has seemed to work and I never beat Mageworld. Been wondering if Mr. Farris wrote a book like Mageworld.

None EXACTLY like Mageworld, Mageworld is sort of a book told as a game. BUT, he wrote a lot of really good books! whitegryphon.com/books.htmMy personal favorite is the Muse series (Muse and Aura of Indigo). Its a detective novel set in a not to close but not too distant future. Genetic engineering has advanced to the point that it is possible to have a "muse" built for you. A Muse is a small (6 inches or so)) companion who assist and inspires you. The novel is well written and the world is dark, but fascinating. I'm STILL hoping for a third book in this series some day. The Oerth Cycle is really good as well. The story spans epic stretches of time in a world where anthropomorphic animals live and struggle for survival. Each book grows deeper and more powerful than the previous one. It's a great series. Unfortunately, a lot of Mr. Farris' books are "out of print" for the moment. Hopefully that will change soon. With the rapid growth of e-readers I think this might be the time when authors finally manage to break the yoke of the big publishing houses and reach a significantly sized audience on their own. By the way, Mr. Farris' complete graphic novel "For the love of evil" is available online here: whitegryphon.com/freebies.htm. For FREE.

Hyperborea won't work to DSLOA, you have to have the original DS. Correct me if I'm wrong folks!

You're mostly correct, Kilarin To execure LoH, you need to use the DS1 shortcut, and not the DSLOA shortcut. BUT, you need the updated version of DS, which comes out-of-the-box with DSLOA. So either install DSLOA, and make sure your LoH shortcut points to the original DS exe instead of the DSLOA exe, OR install plain DS and update it prior to attempting LoH.
