Talk to everyone who doesn't try to kill you, and by talking to the right few people you'll unlock Ursa ( the bear ), when travelling through a certain region for the first time. The dialogue hints in which region it could be. Good luck

............ wonder what region and who people are is there a random bear that talks to u?| The bear dosen't talk to you actually I don't think he is even around 'till you talk to the person I got him the other day the person who you have to talk to happened to be in the area I was grinding in for days they are in a keep in one of the homerow areas, one of the only ones with unique dialogue that says something about a bear or similar thing. I'd advise if you don't want the early game to be a giveme don't get the bear or atleast keep him standing behind cause he is really over powered for the area you get him in and alot of the later zones.

Keep looking ... . Posted by Zesvotzashni Sinkunndai'Jari . "early game, giveme, don't get the bear, he is really over powered for the area ." Quotes like this leave me to believe you are not very far into the game nor do you understand it yet and you will probably find yourself at a standstill in the near future.. .

Quotes like this leave me to believe you are not very far into the game nor do you understand it yet and you will probably find yourself at a standstill in the near future.. . No of course I'm not very far, that's why I said that. however I'm pretty sure I DO understand it, or more accurately, I understand Xaa's way of making things, I've yet to see him make anything(That isn't a joke) that is super easy or a giveme, I can't help but get the eerie feeling that while the bear is one-hit-kill powerful for the 5-7 or so zones after you find him he balances out significantly later on. But at the same time it's alittle, I don't know, ridiculous maybe? That he is almost invincible for a bit, I had started with the assumption that the game was going to be hard but ATM I've been using him to occupy stuff while I just train my stats up. After your comment I guess I should just be enjoying my free XP while the short time it lasts, looks like I am gonna need it later.

At the start, Mantri is stronger than Pooka. By the end, you come to realise that no matter how experienced and well-equipped he is, he's made out of wafer-thin glass. Mantri is, after all, just a Pawn. You're a Knight. At start he may be better than you, but you'll surpass him easily. And to the Knights on he opposite homerows he's brushed aside before he's even raised is arm to hit something.
At the start Ursa is indomitable. Vast amout of health and hitting hard, he blows everything away easily. Though Ursa is a bear, and therefor cannot use weapons or armour. He's also huge. So he can't just dodge stuff, and he can't wear armour or use a shield. If he gets hit, he takes damage. If he gets hit by strong knights, he takes a LOT of damage. And, of course, to cast the Revive spell, you need to have as much mana as the corpse has maximum health. There is no way your mana will be high enough to revive Ursa, once he's dead.
As you said, it'll all balance out along the way. At the start they're very strong, at the end they're very weak. And in between, they're very helpful.

Yep. Except for fighting the Black Queen, I never used the companions as anything but pack horses and story points. they travel, I fight.
