I reached a point where I cannot figure out the next steps in crafting.
I currently have apprentice and journyman blacksmithing, aswell as leatherworking and bowyer. I managed to craft basic items using the "raw ingredient + pattern + crafting kit + skill", I figured how to upgrade metal studs to metal rings and rings into scales. I managed to add studs to my gloves, helmets, armors, robes, and boots by using the leatherwokring skill + studs + basic crafted item + crafting kit....
And now I am stuck, I just can't figure out the next step, I tried every combination (that I could think of) of crafting skill to try and make any of those items into chain mail... I tried adding more studs, adding more leather, I tried anything I could think of and I am not finding any way to do anything. Heck I even tried throwing in a new copy of the pattern just for kicks or skipping the studs part... and I tried with multiple items (2 crafting kits... 2 units of rings, etc...)

First, I think you ar in the wrong game for this, you are talkign about the crafting system for MW not LOH. Unless I am wrong, the LOH system is not that advanced. If I am wrong, then I dont know how to help you. Didnt play LOH that Much.
Second try patterns with rings.

LoH has less combinations than MW.If you want complete list then start a black character and purchase a crafting book from hyperborian at the start position near the statue of Vox in black forest. That book is very costly so prepare for it.

Both of you replied with answers about mageworld... I posted this in LOH forum... this is about LOH. I never played mageworld before. Thanks for the tips though... I mean, the crafting book in LOH is really cheap, and there is no black or white in LOH.
The loh in game book about crafting gives the following examples: 1. "sometimes an item may be improved by adding more of one material, for example a chain shirt can have more chains added to it to make it a heavy chain shirt" 2. It details the progression of raw materials of metals... that is, ore to studs to rings to scales to plates. 3. It states items follow a progression scheme, and that they may be upgraded by either combining your current item with the raw materials of the next level, or by combining it with more of the raw material used to make it in the first place.
Furthermore, there is apprentice, journeyman and master blacksmith skills... I am just wondering if the reason why i cant craft further is because i am doing something wrong, or because of a bug.

I am just wondering if the reason why i cant craft further is because i am doing something wrong, or because of a bug. There are no known bugs in crafting for LoH, but the system was not fully utilized. I did better with it in Mageworld.

So you are saying that despite the fact that the in game books would suggest otherwise... higher level crafted armors are simply unimplemented features? I got studded leather items.... can chain items be created? how about plate?

It's along long time since I played LoH but I managed to create all the armors and other items, you just have to keep experimenting. If I find my notes I'll get back to you. Edit: Try this link www.io.com/~wmallman/LoH_crafting_tables.html

so i WAS doing something wrong...
I misinterpreted the crafting books instructions to mean that if i want chain mail i have to combine metal rings with a lower level armor, such as studded leather...
And the rare few times i tried to circumvent this i tried to make a helmet, which is the one exception in the armor department in that it only uses ore, instead of studs/rings/plates...
Thank you.

Having played LoH several times (and loving it more than DS/DSLOA) this is the first time i've used the crafting skill. I'm pleased to see that items created have higher stats and lower requirements making this skill worth using, but i wish crafted items could be sold to earn more money to purchase the very expensive spells and jewelry. Would it be too hard to implement this into the best seigelet around?

It seems that Xaa blocked the sale of crafted items in Hyperborea for a specific reason, but I can't remember exactly what it was. I think he felt it would interfere in the economy some way?
In Mageworld he went the opposite direction, and the economy is almost entirely based upon crafted items. (and its a COOL economy)
*IF* Xaa were to make modifications to Hyperborea, I certainly wouldn't object to seeing the crafting system expanded. Hyperborea was an incredible and fun crafting system, but he took crafting so much further with Mageworld that seeing what he would do with Hyperborea crafting now would certainly be interesting!
I don't know if he'd change the rule about selling crafted items though. We need to get Xaa to chime in and remind us what the original reasoning was.

That was exactly the reason. However, in retrospect, my concerns were not really justified. Yep. In Mageworld, you make everything you will use, and you can make pretty much everything in the game. Not likely.
