Well, I love Mageworld, but I never really got far in Hyberborea...at all...
Anyway, I've decided I'm going to play and finish Hyperborea, but there were always a few things I couldn't figure out...
At the beginning, I always made my hero a ranger, but I could never keep his experience up with T'vril...He would get so far behind that he wouldn't be able to do much.
I try to take on enemies one at a time, but when I retreat to areas I fought through, there are more guys! I end up dead a lot...and since my hero is behind in experience, I don't have someone who can take damage while T'vril kills em.
I'm looking forward to playing Hyberborea extensively, and appreciate anyone who decides to help me out. ;D

Start your main char and kill each deer, wolf and bears in black forest. If you kill everyone in blackforest and you have started with female char ,you may be able to wear throwing axe and your dmg will increase.
Next you must be able to learn leather crafting before leaving black forest.craft leather armor 13 or purchase armor having 16 value. Then craft helm, gloves, boots and you will be able to resist enemies. If you slowdown yourself at begining later on your speed will be fast.

It is normal for T'Vril to level faster than you, in early stages. You will be able to gain back on her once you can use the Explosive Potion as a weapon. Don't be afraid she levels faster than you. If you think the difference is getting really, really big, you can try to solo a little bit with your main char. But in time it will straighten up.

Once you get T'vrill to TirMilani, purchase one of the spells that destroy bodies. Preferablly Corpse Transmutation. Then, use it on each monster that you don't want to see again. Warning! Do NOT just use it on everything. There are monsters you WANT to respawn. For example, you WANT trolls coming back over and over because they drop nice jewelry, and you certainly don't want to get rid of the swamp trolls, dragons, or giants. You need them for experiance AND loot. Also, if you eliminate every krug and bandit you will find yourself short on crafting supplies. I use this method to clear the main paths to most locations, but leave all the creatures on the side paths respawning. One more bit of advice, you neet THINGS to absorb enemy attacks while both you and T'Vrill do damage. Get TWO copies of the minion spell, Your hero can create a weak minion which is usefull because he at least takes an attack or two to kill. Thats a few attacks that do not go onto you. Get your hero and T'Vrill both a decent summons spell. (Jade Gargoyle and Giant rat are good at the begining) and make certain you have these handy helpers summoned before any combat. AND, if you want to slow the enemy down by just a little bit more, put a mana bonus ring on each of your mininons, and give each of THEM a summons spell. (I like having them summon Skeletal hound for aesthetic reasons) They will only be able to summon a creature that has 1 or two hit points, but, again, thats one attack that goes against those critters instead of on your Hero or T'Vrill If you are following the recommended path with the Hero as ranged, you will just have to settle for the fact that he is in a supporting role. And that is OK! The story works that way, don't WORRY about trying to keep him the same level. As for me, In my opinion, magic reigns supreme in LOH, I run both T'Vrill and my hero as almost pure mages.

If you have lots of money ,I recommend that go and purchase pro-dragon minigun instead of explosive powder. This is the finest weapon Goblins have ever made just like Hammer of thunder is crafted by Dwarfs.Once purchased this gun will cannot be sold item. This will give you level double than explosive potion. The good thing in explosive potion is it is easily available.

Good point and good advice!
But the mini gun isn't very hard to get. You just have to send T'vrill down into the goblin lair alone.

Hmmmm....this is all good advice.
Kilarin-Would you reccommend the hero go with nature magic instead of ranged? I don't mind a challenge, in my other game I stopped because I think I took a wrong path and met guys who would summon guys and the summons would chase me forever, and when I tried to backtrack I got trapped, and I didn't have a good save. I'll be more careful this time around.
Also, I havn't gotten to the point where you can summon minions who can equip items. But I'll try summoned guys like the gargoyle and such. I just remember T'vril running out of mana every three seconds.

Yes and no. Thats the way *I* have the most fun, but it can be quite a challenge and VERY frustrating early in the game. Nature mage is one of the most powerful classes in LOH. To ballance that Xaa limited the availability of spells early in the game. As a NM, you will spend many many many levels with only the spells Zap and Healing Hands. Zap is probably the most mana efficent damage spell in the game, but you just need more OOMPH after the first few levels, and it's not available. Now once you DO get some more spells, it pays off BIG TIME. But until that point, it's quite a challenge. Which CAN be a plus if you like a challenge. In my current HARD mode game, I decided I just HAD to have some more NM spells. So instead of following the proper quest order, I fought my way to TirAslen (The Light Elves) after TirMalani (The Dark Elves). NOW I have some decent nature mage spells and I'm making a brief visit to the Giants to try them out. So if you decide to take the road less traveled and play a NM, consider sneaking up to Tran the Ice Mage or the light elves after Tir Malani. It will greatly expand your possibilities. You can pick up the "Summon Minion" in Tir'Milani, the dark elves city. it's REALLY helpful, the minion last for 24 hours and acts as a party member. He is your muscle.

I'm pretty well suited, but I managed to acquire a few sets of Shadow Armor in my travels, and then dropped them because they have no resale value - was this a bad move...?

Well it could have been bad and good. Do you have any other progressive armour? Because progressive armour is the best armour in the game in my opinion because it becomes stronger on dexterity and level up. If the shadow armour was giving you bad def then it was not abad move in my opinion. If it did give good def......... then..... well uhh not a good move.

Not true for every char.I mean if your char is valkayrie try to get the armor set of valkayrie and that is the best.Regeneration type varies and you have to think what is best and what time.If your char is range char ,you need only health regen not mana so not every pro-armor is best.If no choice is given, anyone can be good.

Valkayrie hunting ground will give you quick level up.Then swamps then lactri god, then hyperborean dungeon, then ROF then elf island or fury cave and finally FURY.
If you are in SP and in start ,just complete quests first then visit these places.
