Look at the Subject again. I didn't say that Nature Mages are BETTER than Combat Mages. I said that Nature Mages MAKE better Combat Mages than Combat Mages do.
Now this doesn't actually apply in the middle of a battle. But for spells that you cast between combats, such as summon Minion, a combat mage can't compete with a nature mage.
Allow me to explain!
So, T'vrill and my Hero are both about the same level, T'Vrill a CM and my Hero a NM. Both, of course, are wearing items that give a boost to their magic levels.
T'Vrill is has a Fedora with +4CM, two rings +1CM each, armor +2CM, and an amulet with +1CM, for a total of +9 to CM. With all of those items on, and an Inspiration spell to and an extra +1, she is at her maximum CM level, and can summon a pretty impressive minion.
BUT, my Hero is wearing a Fedora +9NM, Ring +2NM, Amulet +2NM, Boots +1NM. For a total of +14NM (+15 with Inspiration) So, when the Hero puts all of these on and casts CONVERT, he is a HIGHER level CM than T'Vrill.
BUT, that is not the advantage I'm talking about. Which Items I happened to obtain that boosted NM and CM were chance and it would have been possible for me to have obtained higher pluses to CM than NM. It still wouldn't matter, my NM would STILL be better for casting a Minion than my CM. Why?
Because, once I use CONVERT to turn my NM into a CM, I can take OFF all of his +NM equipment without losing any CM levels. And THEN I can put all of T'Vrills equipment ON him. NOW he has thier bonuses COMBINED!!!!
I just find it amusing that when I decided to give up one of my minions in order to add Lord Collingway to my party, I dismissed T'Vrills because my Nature Mage could summon a more powerful minion.
